- Rainbow Mountain Weekend -
Report By Edie - Oct. 31,2003

You're roving reporter with a little blurb about last weekend at Rainbow Mountain.

Arrived on Thursday afternoon, a day before the official start, and got dressed for dinner, semi-dressy. There were about 16 of our people, old acquaintances. After dinner went to the lounge and played the jukebox and chatted. Turned in early.

Friday, real breakfast, Miss Olivia / Frank was back as general manager. Hanging out chatting, then prep for the wine and cheese meet and greet. I wore one of my Office Girl outfits to welcome the new arrivals. We had a very good turnout as this was our substitute for the canceled Paradise in the Poconos, and a lot of my friends showed up. Got glitzed up for dinner with them.

After dinner went to the disco; we had been promised a night of "classic" dance music. Some were concerned, "Are we getting a night of Glenn Miller?" Not to worry, the DJ was doing his DJ thing, playing what he wanted to hear. "When are you playing the "classic" dance music?" I asked. He looked at his watch and said, "11:00." Waited until after 11:00, went back to the DJ, "When...?" "11:00" "It's 11:10 now." "Oh, next song." So, we got about an hour of identifiable tunes, then he reverted back to playing what he wanted to hear. So we did get some booty-shaking time. Then I went downstairs to the karaoke lounge, where the T girls were holding sway, until closing.

Saturday, breakfast, hanging out and chatting. A couple of my friends were going down to the Stroudsburg flea market and wanted me to come. I had an hour and a half to make myself presentable; that was quite a challenge. I managed it, and we spent about an hour there shopping. We talked to vendors; no issues with the way we looked. We did get read by a TG person. Turned out to be an MHVTA girl that I didn't recall meeting! Also went for a little drive with my "Tunes from the Transgendered Crypt" CD playing.

There was a late afternoon field trip to a candy factory and then a vintage clothing store. Me and a couple of my friends got the brilliant idea that we would follow the bus in our own car and skip the vintage clothing store so we wouldn't get back real late. After getting directions, we took off ahead of the bus. Of course, we got lost, did the woman thing and stopped for directions, which turned out to be incorrect. So we had an adventure, but did eventually get back on track. Got back just in time for our dinner reservations, so we didn't change for dinner while all who had stayed were glitzed out. Oh, the chocolate was delicious.

An acquaintance from prior Rainbow weekends joined us at dinner. She has fully transitioned, and I thought it was just great that she came back to party with us.

We went back to our rooms to put on some party clothes. Went to the disco; could only take about 10 minutes of the non-stop techno, then went to the karaoke lounge. At 2:00 AM, instead of closing, they set the clock backs as it was daylight savings time weekend, so we got an extra hour. Again, the T girls were well represented in the karaoke performances.

Sunday morning, I did something a little different, I usually have Sunday breakfast in drab, but decided to go dressed. Had breakfast with friends, changed back into myself, packed, and headed for home.

Edie
